Alkyona Estate

The Estate

Alkyona Estate olive oil is produced from our olive grove located in the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) area of Laconia, Greece.  The olive grove with uninterrupted views across the Laconian Gulf, has 800 Koroneiki and Athinoelia olive trees, along with 50 Kalamata trees, as well as numerous other tree varieties (non-olive).

Athinoelia - the tree of Goddess Athena - is an ancient & rare olive tree that grows only in Southern Laconia. Koroneiki - so prized for its exceptional, robust taste - is a more common olive tree, considered by many to be the closest relative to the wild olive tree.

The location of the grove on the easterly finger of the Peloponnese is surrounded by typical Greek countryside - mountains, rough terrain, sea & beaches.  It is a place of tranquillity and calm - hence the name Alkyona Estate, which derives from the Greek Halcyon myth.

Alkyona Estate Extra Virgin Olive Oil is single estate classified, as we use only olives grown within our grove to produce the oil, ensuring consistent quality year-on-year.

Another practice we have adopted to maintain the quality is to ensure no chemicals are used on the trees.  Instead we use only organic and sustainable methods to support olive growth and use water from our own well - practices we have adopted since the beginning of 2015.

About Us

We (Samantha and Nikos Karras) purchased the already established olive grove in 2014 when we fell in love with the location & surrounding area. Laconia offers something for everyone: great beaches, food, wine, countryside, & people.  So whatever your interest you will always find something in the region.

By purchasing the plot it has given us the opportunity to integrate an ideal lifestyle in to our busy professional lives.  Enabling us to share our love of quality food & working ethos, by introducing our olive oil to the UK market.
